This masterpiece shifts from rushing breathless sections of hasty drums and frantic riff to super aggressive hyperblasting to sudden melodic drops and back again. Coming in at under the 30minute mark this output does an admirable job of exploring the concept presented under the title; TELOS being Greek for 'End', the release follows ideas of environmental collapse, the problems of post-modern society and overpopulation, and plays with ideas of metaphysical beings as metaphors, embodying the eponymous TELOS as a deity-like humanity destroying creature.
Following this almost sci-fi story like structure is refreshingly unusual in this genre and the band pulls it off remarkably well. Their sound is certainly comparable to that of a destruction deity. In short this is a brutally effective release in the blackened hardcore genre that will satisfy anyone looking for their blasting dissonance fix while at the same time offering interest and depth for repeated listens with a strong conceptual leaning and unusual Instrumentation.
There are bands that have this one bombastic record and are never able to come close to it again .. NOT tempest – they made a huge advancement without loosing their sound or uniqueness. Two UK bands combine to produce a record to reflect the bleak realities of the modern world. A record that evokes the dark, miserable and disorienting experience of watching humanity destroy itself.
The This Ends Here side of this intriguing split is 18 minutes that claim to be five songs but could be anything from one to a dozen depend on who’s counting, proving the potential for modern crust to incorporate a challenging variety of musical genres. It opens with Seeds, a continuation of the sound on the 2014 Afterwards 7“ - anthemic d-beat breaking into heavy riffage – before careening through a chaotic collection of styles including punk, doom and post-rock and finally descending into a bleak, atmospheric outro. Lyrically, the themes of environmental and social collapse run throughout these songs, with a haunting sample from Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring, whilst musically evoking emotions such as anger, despair and even hope that accompany these dark themes.
Conqueror Worm are a three piece bass and drums deathgrind band that combine the viciousness of bands like 324 and Fear of God with the atmosphere of Gorguts and the barbarism of Celtic Frost. This release sees them exploring dungeon-crawling grind that is equal parts cavernous and ear-splitting. A roughly hewn collection of very nasty tunes, the tracks lyrically and thematically mirror the This Ends Here side- songs about the eradication of nature are paired with reflective sci-fi themed blasts and a fizzing, noise-laden production. Drawing from doom and noise influences the bass runs through as many amps and distortion pedals as possible creating a truely monolithic cloud of noise, occasionally penetrated by swarming blast beats and tortuous, wailed vocals in the vein of Khanates Alan Dubin.

Hailing from Stockholm, This Gift is a Curse play a combination of hardcore and sludge with great influences from both the occult black metal-scene as well as drone soundscapes. Spanning from slow, epic sections to faster, energetic parts, the songs show a great diversity in both musicianship and creativity. Since the debut CDEP the band have played a lot of shows and done a number of tours in Scandinavia as well as Europe, meanwhile working on their debut full-length album. During the late summer and early fall of 2011 the band recorded what came to be “I, Guilt Bearer” at a secret location north of Stockholm. To be free from any time limit, they asked the producer Magnus Björk (who worked with bands like Meleeh and Children of Fall) to move his studio to this specific location so the band could work with the recording without boundaries and whenever they felt like. What you hear is a harsh, honest and straight forward sound combined with a solid core of musical- as well as dark blunt emotional depth.

Totem Skin's shivering melodies were created in the deep forests in the outskirts of Borlänge, Sweden; conducted by 6 individuals who poured every drop of passion they could harvest from the
bottom of their hearts. The band saw its dawn in the fall/winter of 2012 as a three piece, which produced and recorded two EP’s themselves while adding members as recording went along. The full
line-up was completed in March 2013, allowing the band to further expand on their... musical horizons.
“Still Waters Run Deep” is the band’s first full length and their first real documentation since the completed formation. Recorded at the Ranch Production House in Southampton, UK and engineered by Lewis Johns (Goodtime Boys, ex-The Long Haul), the soundscape of the album ranges from raw aggression to doomy heaviness and unsettling guitar melodies. Transatlantic Rat's Atoms music feels somehow weird. Twisted and heavy groovy PsychDoom from two thirds of Ufo Gestapo (RIP). Occasional sax, clarinet, harp and keyboards give their side of the split a slight jazzy dissonant feeling. It rises from the heavy rocking ground to some spacy, but dirty and drony feel, and then again rocks and waves one heavy like being in a space capsule, where history and phrases flow by and mean something nothing. Second songs name "Rise Reverse in the Middle of Nowhere" speaks this well. Warm and distantly cold the same time.
BirdEye have gently and humbly taken the b-side. But this is none other than Edgy Burning Witch's new band. Evil and psychedelic in its own inimitable way. The music is organic but noisy. Is this Doom with Ambient parts? Whatever. The heavy songs splay soundscapes of trippy mental states (song title "Hivemind" points in that direction), that appear pathological and disturbing but are cleansing. An archaic and mediatative approach to that style of music that hovers above things, because the band knows its game well.
On top of all that is a really beautiful and fitting artwork from Jason Wagoner on brown natural cardboard.
Sickness In' is the third album from Portland's most wretched, Trees. The band presents a two-song assault, each one roughly fifteen minutes in length, each a slowly rotting heap of droning slow-motion deathdoom riffs decomposing into clouds of black amplifier hum, high shrieking voices and tortured screams drifting against the glacial roar of smoking amp stacks and short-circuiting hardware. Where the previous album had Trees employing some interesting rhythmic chaos and longer stretches of ambient filth, this time around the band drops some of their most leaden, majestic riffs yet into their slow-mo filthstorm, massive saurian doom riffs slipping WAY out of the confines of 'groove' and deep into rumbling fields of charred ritualistic chanting and almost Abruptum-like states of psychotic noise.
After some split lp’s and ep’s here comes the first full length record of this technical grind band from Glauchau/Germany. Although everything is colored it’s a dark and evil record with some surprises.
