It rumbles into existence, and expels a downpour of hot, wet piss, shit and disease that quickly pools and rises – your ankles, your waist, the top of your head. You are engulfed by a physical manifestation of evil…music…a waterfall of raging emotion – acid rain – that strips the body down to a raw, vulnerable and clamoring mass of nothingness that quivers and suffers, waiting, to transcend the void of human existence, to skip the light, and arrive defeated, to a new world of pain, darkness and unrest. This is the world of ‘False.’ The new album by WAKE.
So maybe it’s a hard sell, but with “False,” Calgary’s WAKE have created one of the most angry, vicious and volatile albums you’ll ever hear. Period. Seriously. Eleven songs of raw, unwavering and filthy hardened, deathened grind that come out of nowhere, leave you gasping for breath, and wondering what the hell just happened. This is a chaotic, pulsating, airborne event, not an album…it’s a return to form for extreme music – real danger, real anger and real beats and riffs. “False” is the sound of a prisoner getting shived. Of a mother stealing her son’s Ritalin for dope. Of a one-legged, starved dog, straining to eat the maggots in its own ass. And when the hate stops you’ll know it’s over, and if you were paying attention, and you’ve got the strength, you’ll play it again. And again and again.

WAKE are a grindcore band from Calgary, Canada. Going hard and hitting the road running since forming in the summer of 2009, they're about to release their 5th record/2nd full-length LP "FALSE" on 7Degrees Records in Europe and Handshake Inc. in North America.
After a 7" and several tours through the North American continent, Canada's grinding hardcore band WAKE's first longplayer combines a good dose of blastbeats, sludgy midtempo parts, doublebass machinegunfire and sometimes even melodic crusty outbursts into a fresh own style. Walls are basically everything a hardcore band should be these days. Aggressive, provoking and unsettling. Their music has been described as brooding and downright scary at times. They are heavy and fast but with plenty of room for slower and creepy parts. They remind me of the first times I heard a Born Against record. The mixture of pissed off lyrics with such fitting music. Or maybe Dead and Gone, with their basslines and dissonant guitars who make you feel miserable each time you put on their record. After a brutal, face melting demo tape Frankfurt, Germany’s Weiche are back with this heavy hitter. Their 11-song vinyl debut is packed with brutal, gloomy and extremely sludgey Doom Metal with Hardcore leanings. The speed is usually mid-tempo, but they thrash it up here and there. Sounds like a combination of the heavy doomey sounds of Electric Wizard, Cathedral and Paradise Lost with the slower heavier moshy parts on Napalm Deaths Harmony Corruption when they weren’t grinding. A heavy auditory assault of down-tuned guitars with an extremely brutal, throaty singer that’s bursting with negativity. Dark music for dark times! The LP includes a two sided printed insert.

This is the first LP called "Modern Hypocrisy" of the band WWHIRR from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. To be precise, they come from Klang Valley (not Kang, but close, and it means “sound” in German) - how cool! A whirlwind of a name for a band from Klangtal. The trio dispense with a guitar, which makes the sound rather interesting. Themselves, they describe their style as Power Violence, but that's too easy. They sound very 90s, in the positive sense that they try to create their own style from various style elements. From The 00s on most bands played a retro sound, before that originality was still being sought and sometimes rewarded by the fans. WWHIRR for sure have something very much of their own going. At times slow, sometimes fast, rarely at a classic Power Violence pace - but always with a lot of power and variety. The vocal style is like a mix of Japanese HC and Power Violence, and the lyrics are in English, in addition to well-chosen samples (very 90s, too). They even have a song with "Liar" in the chorus that reminds me of the song "Liar" from the ROLLINS BAND. So the whole package is pretty cool. Merciless Records didn't release any new records in easily 15 years and returns with this release in 2014. Malaysia has one of the most active punk scenes in the world and the band is a very important part of it. They should also be very good live. At war with false noise: At long fucking last! Finally glad to release this 12", which has been happening since over six months ago. Let's forget about that, though. What we have here are three tracks of old-style power electronics, reminds me particularly of the Sutcliffe Jugend "When Pornography Is No Longer Enough" record. Very minimal in places, with periods of lull interspersed with piercing explosions, static bursts, and constant weird, heavilly processed vocals. Lyrics are very stream-of-consciousness stuff, and the delivery is bang-on, incredibly jarring stuff. Completely at odds with a lot of PE acts around today who tend to go for the muscular beefed-up American-style approach, this is very much more in the old Come Org vein, aesthetically in in the musical delivery. Good stuff.

Wilt is a Canadian quintet, hailing for Winnipeg, Manitoba. This album is their debut and damn, it's an intense one. Continuously balancing on the borders between death metal, black metal and the whole post-subgenres, these guys throw three massive anthems (plus one short instrumental outro) in our faces. Each of them is a huge epos of alternating bleak doom passages and fierce blast beats driven slabs of black metal and each of them is accompanied by eerie screams.
The result is an album that will haunt your dreams, crush your spirit and wreck your emotions but it's damn well worth it. There's little else to say about this, and that's quite a shame because I'd like to go on recommending the hell out of this band. So, if you're an extreme metal fan who loves to dwell into the deepest and darkest regions of the human soul, lock yourself up this winter and play this piece again and again. The fourpiece from Linz, Austria is approaching music intensely, and is driven by vocal outbursts,and disruptive guitars. Lyrically they want to keep it deep and speak in general about human/social atrocities, troubled minds, search of self-awareness, and so on... Witte Wieven, hailing from Tilburg (NL) and Reiziger (NL), a solo effort from Laster’s N., have joined forces to create a musical trip that drowns the listener in a trance-like yet fierce atmosphere.
Both bring forth one long, atmospheric black metal track that slowly unfolds its mysteries.
“Met Beide Benen In Het Niets” (Witte Wieven) has a warm, melancholic feeling to it. The song is meticulously built up layer per layer and slowly creeps into your head. Reminds of (old) Altar Of Plagues.
